Dear customers,

We are temporarily closing from 1st July-12th September 2022.

Last orders will be dispatched (or can be collected from us) by 28th June 2022.

If you wish to order colour cards, sample pots and A4s during our break, they will be dispatched from 12/9/22.

We need to refresh how we work, as we recently changed our pigments and had to reformulate all our colours. All the new formulas were handwritten and must now be digitised, so they can be easily understood by others and we can finally get some more help.

If you would like to find out more about why we are closing, please read on . . .

We are a small colour and paint making studio, the team comprises me – Francesca, #thecolourwoman and founder, Camillo – he has worked with me since 1998, the pillar of the company, Stevie – she makes our beautiful hand painted colour charts, A4 brush outs and sample pots since 2016, and Arty, our fantastic new addition who does a bit of everything (apart from mixing colours, though he is keen to learn), and the two dogs, Bubu and Hunter.

We are the only paint company in the UK that still uses the Old Carousel to input pigments into the paint manually. We formulate our colours, which are created uniquely by us – we hand mix our paints; we are artisan, we do everything traditionally. Currently, Camillo and I do all the mixing – we are getting on a bit and the paints are heavy to decant, lift and mix. So, because of the fantastic demand for our paints and colours (THANK YOU TO ALL OUR CUSTOMERS), we need to get some extra help in the studio.

I am the only one who makes, creates and formulates our unique and wonderful colours and I have hand written all our new formulas up to now. But this means they can only be understood by myself and Camillo, and in order for others to understand them, the formulas must be digitised. I need peace and concentration to do this – we have 234 standard colours in 11 products, each product has a different formula and each formula must be inputted by hand into the program. So, I am disappearing for July, to the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides, taking only my yoga mat, dog and laptop to focus all my attention on this enormous task. This digitisation is fundamental to our growth as it means we can finally get all the help we need.

Then, in August, I have been invited to Colombia to attend a workshop on how to make colours with plants and natural dyes. I am going for an adventure, to learn, be inspired, and to see how it is made in the most traditional way. Travelling has always been my biggest passion and inspiration and I feel blessed to have this opportunity.

Our studio cannot be run with only one person mixing anymore, there must be at least two mixers, so we must close for these two months (and Camillo needs a break too).

We will be back on the 12th September, refreshed, inspired, modernised and still hand making and hand mixing our paints, but with more help.

There will be a new Colour Collection and a new website waiting for you, with more exciting news to come.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this might cause and hope you will be able to order in time or wait for our return. We understand this is a mammoth ask and are extremely humbled and grateful by the positive reaction to this news from our existing clients.

Thank you all for understanding and for your custom, love and support.

We look forward to seeing you, hearing from you and colouring and painting with you again in September.

Have a wonderful summer

All the best,
Francesca, Camillo, Stevie and Arty

Exquisite Eco Paint, Eco Emulsion and Lime Wash, London

‘Creating and making colours gives me joy; colours transform people’s lives. I feel so lucky – I am the #thecolourwoman and I am doing exactly what I love to do.’

Francesca Wezel, founder and director

Welcome to Francesca’s Paints; established in 1996, our artisan studio is based in Battersea and everything we do here is handmade. Featured in many magazines, including Elle Decoration, The World of Interiors and Living etc, our velvety, light absorbent paint is made with great care and love – each Colour Collection has a story, each bespoke tin of paint is hand-mixed and our beautiful colour charts are hand painted.

Our story

One of the first eco-friendly paint companies in the UK, our bases, the Lime Wash and the Eco Emulsion, come from Italy and we colour them in the studio. We love making exclusive, elegant and unique colours and colour matching.

Francesca's Paints are:

  • Inspired by travel, nature and art
  • Intensely pigmented
  • Breathable
  • Plastic free
  • Low VOC
  • Free from solvents (and their components). Our paints have a very low impact on our health and the environment*.
Our approach to crafting our luxury paint is incredibly hands-on – we do everything in our studio and keep a formula for every colour we make. Our pigments are of the highest quality and we only use 12, a combination of mineral, organic and synthetic.

How can we work together?

We have the pleasure of working with a high-profile list of clients and properties across the country, from fantastic designers to famous actors and many more. We’d love to hear from you, if you are interested in working together, you can visit our studio, call us on 0207 228 7694 or email us to book an appointment.

Happy clients:

'Francesca's colour mixing service is impeccable. We have designed colours together from tiny scraps of William Kent 18th century velvet to bits of bark off Eucalyptus trees. Who else could offer such a service! Vive Colour, Texture and Joy. Vive Francesca Queen of Pigment!'
- Miv Watts, Interior Designer

‘Francesca is a total joy to work with. Her paints are wonderfully chalky and her colours have depth and life. We constantly work with unique, vintage materials and textiles so having the opportunity to bespoke colour match is incredibly helpful.’
- Clare Lewis, Retrouvius Architectural Reclamation & Design

‘A brilliant colourist, at the drop of a hat she can mix a special colour for a scheme in that perfect shade which doesn’t exist in any paint card (and then repeat it if you need more!). For colour enthusiasts, to work with her is joyful and rewarding, every colour a winner!’
- Cecilia Willis, Cecilia Willis Ceramics
