Strawbale Course Mozambique April and May 2009: Francesca just got back from a stay in beautiful Mozambique, what a fantastic country!!! Went to the north east, to the Ilha de Mozambique, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the only form of paint they were useing was lime wash. The Ilha is protected by UNESCO and they are very careful in keeping it as it was, only using traditional products. Francesca met a Swedish architect, Marcus Antman, who is involved in building two new houses (for Swedish businessmen), the outside made in the most traditional way while the inside is completely high tec. Marcus is interested in the colouration of Francesca’s Lime Wash as they have a very limited range of colours in Mozambique. In the past they used to make colours using corals from the barrier reef which is not possible anymore. So perhaps Francesca could help them match the historical colours, and for the inside they could use a splash of strong vibrant colour, a la Louis Barragan style. The light is perfect for it. I will keep you posted on the developments of this project. |
